This could be the start of something big.  This land was purchased from the Cole Land Company in November of 1905, but sat idle until 1912 when a group of townspeople decided it was high time that something be done toward making this a usable area. They cleared debris, and diverted a small stream that cut through the center of the lot, and soon were able to establish a playground and a tennis area.  (From the "Washington New Jersey Centennial History And Program")
